You need someone senior accountable for your AI: the decisions, the risk, the strategy. You may not be ready to hire a full-time Chief AI Officer. We provide one, an Emissary, run the function, and build your own people to be self-sufficient.

Fellowship Emissaries gives you a named, certified CAIO from our team, an Emissary, who takes on the full Chief AI Officer function: the governance, the development and rollout, and the people who will run it. Governance is the spine, because it is what keeps every decision defensible and yours. The Emissary directs and is accountable for the whole function; your team and vendors do the building, and authority over your business stays with you.
As we lead that function, we actively identify the people inside your organization with the right AI aptitude and develop them into the leaders that operating AI at scale will require. As your team matures, we step down and hand off. You are never dependent on us longer than you need to be.
Our CAIO leads and directs your AI governance and holds scoped decision authority over the governance system itself: the policy, the risk method, the escalation thresholds, the cadence. What we are not is a corporate officer of your company, a manager of your staff, or a signatory who can bind you. Every business, personnel, financial, and legal decision stays yours. AI operates. You own the decision, including the decision to govern it.
Build-phase executive leadership. We run the AI governance function while it is being built, make decisions outside the scope of Governance Build, and develop the people inside your organization who will take it over from us. For a fast stand-up, complex or higher-risk AI, or the Build phase: decision rights, the AI inventory and risk register, oversight and escalation, board reporting, and training your team.
Transition to the new team. Your team runs the function day to day, with a senior AI leader still in the room for the decisions that carry weight. The same accountable seat at a lower intensity as we finish training and leadership handoff.
Both tiers step down to the AI Sustainment Program assurance floor as your team matures. You move down the ladder as your people take the function over, and a new system or a new regulation can move you back up it.
There is no Diagnostic gate. Engagements begin with a written mandate. The goal in each tier is no longer than six months.
We direct the function, stand up the AI inventory, risk register, and oversight cadence, and begin training your internal owners. Six-month goal.
We finish training, hand over the operating manual, and reverse-shadow while your team runs the cadence, until they own it and sign off. Six-month goal. A maturity review gates the step; a new system or regulation can reset you up a tier.
You land on the AI Sustainment Program, a scope-set assurance floor: audit, recertification, Standard currency, and escalation, kept live behind your team. The Consigliere is a separate product and is not included in Fellowship Intelligence engagement fees.
The person who runs your CAIO seat never signs your assurance or certification; that stays independent. We always disclose our role, and where you need legally independent assurance we route it to an outside partner. We build you to own the function, not to depend on us.
Straight answers, each one traceable to the engagement documents you would sign. Nothing here is a summary of something less specific.
They hold the Chief AI Officer function under a written mandate. They are not an officer of your company. They cannot bind you, cannot direct your staff outside the mandate, and hold no title in your organisation. Every business, personnel, financial and legal decision stays with your board and executives, and the engagement documents say so in those words.
Their authority is scoped to the AI governance system itself: the policy content, the risk method, the escalation thresholds, and the operating cadence. That scope is set out line by line in the Decision Rights and Mandate Exhibit you execute alongside the engagement. Anything outside the governance system is yours, and the Exhibit names who decides what before work begins.
The individual is named at execution, in your engagement's own documents, not in advance and not in a template. Our practitioners are certified, and before anyone takes a client-facing seat Fellowship Intelligence qualifies them against its own practitioner standard, clears a conflicts check, and records a named approval for that seat. A credential describes the practitioner. What governs your systems and your outcomes is the written mandate, not anyone's certificate — which is why the mandate, and not a résumé, is the document you review.
Yes, and through the firm rather than through them. Fellowship Intelligence carries professional liability cover with security and privacy liability, and under the policy's independent-contractor terms the practitioner is an insured for work delivered under our engagement documents. Fellowship Emissaries is a named additional insured. Cover follows the engagement, which is one of the practical differences between hiring a firm and hiring a contractor.
The firm holds the engagement, not the individual. If the named Emissary departs, becomes incapacitated or dies, we provide an equivalent qualified replacement within thirty days. If we do not, that is one of the defined grounds on which you may exit early. You are never dependent on one person's availability for a function you have made accountable.
No, and this is deliberate rather than cautious. The person running your seat never signs, issues or approves your assurance, certification or audit. That sits with an independent reviewer at Fellowship Intelligence or with an outside party. We disclose our role wherever your governance record is presented externally, and the firewall carries into any later assurance engagement for the same organisation. Where you need legally independent assurance, we route it out.
Neither. We do not build your software, select or run your stack, process your data as an operator, or manage your personnel. We direct the governance function and develop the people inside your organisation who will take it over. Your team and your vendors do the building. We also do not provide legal advice or determine your compliance — we map regulatory exposure and hand the legal questions to your counsel.
Two numbers, and they are different on purpose. The contracted Build term is twelve months, preceded by a three-month pilot whose fee credits toward it. The goal inside that term is to step down within six months — to Transition, then to the assurance floor — because the engagement is built to end. During the Build term, early exit is defined rather than discretionary: our uncured material breach, your ceasing all AI use inside the mandate, our failure to replace a departed Emissary, or a change of control where the acquirer already runs the function. Each needs sixty days' written notice. Minimum terms and renewal are set in your Order Form.
It is scoped, and the honest reason is that the cost of an embedded seat is set by what the seat has to carry. Two coverage tiers define the shape — Build at approximately two days a week while the function is stood up, Transition at one day a week while your team takes it over. What sets the fee inside that shape is your actual mandate: how many governed workflows and autonomous agents sit inside it, how many business units or entities, and what your regulatory environment requires. We price after we understand the mandate, not before, and the fee is stated in your Order Form alongside the term. There are two coverage tiers and no others; a request beyond them is scoped case by case with Founder approval.
That is the intended ending. When you are ready to bring the role in-house, we help through our partner network and point you toward candidates who already work to the standard your governance record was built on. The assurance floor stays behind them if you want it. We would rather be the reason you no longer need us.
That is the goal, not a loss. When you are ready to bring the role in-house full-time, we help through our partner network, and point you toward qualified candidates who already speak your Standard.
